Councils Come Together to Celebrate Community Volunteers

Sandown Town Council, Lake Parish Council and Community Action Isle of Wight were delighted to host a Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Wildheart Sanctuary, bringing together volunteers from across the Sandown and Lake communities in recognition of the invaluable contribution they make throughout the year.

The event provided an opportunity for volunteers to meet, share experiences and be thanked by local councils and community organisations for the countless hours they dedicate to improving the lives of others and enhancing the local area.

Representatives from a wide range of organisations attended, including Green Town Volunteers, Lake Tidy Team, School Readers, local Football Club Coaches and Sandown Carnival volunteers, amongst many others. Together, they represent just a small selection of the dedicated individuals who freely give their time, skills and energy to support local projects, events and community initiatives.

The event was made possible through the partnership between Sandown Town Council, Lake Parish Council and Community Action Isle of Wight, with special thanks to the Wildheart Sanctuary for hosting the gathering.

The Mayor of Sandown, Councillor Alex Lightfoot, said:

“Volunteers are at the heart of our community. Their commitment, enthusiasm and willingness to help others make Sandown a better place to live, work and visit. This event is a small way of saying thank you for the enormous contribution they make every day. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many people who care deeply about our community and give so much of their time to support it.”

Chairman of Lake Parish Council, Councillor Paul Brading, added:

“The strength of any community is measured by the people who step forward to help others. The volunteers across Lake and Sandown provide an extraordinary service through their dedication to local groups, organisations and events. It is important that we take the time to recognise and celebrate their achievements, and to express our sincere gratitude for all they do.”

Among those attending was Ben Holbrook, who has been recognised for his outstanding commitment to volunteering and community service.

Ben Holbrook commented:

“Volunteering is about bringing people together and making a positive difference in the places we live. It is incredibly rewarding to see the impact that volunteers can have on their communities, and it is wonderful to see so many people recognised and appreciated for everything they do.”

The event highlighted the importance of volunteering in strengthening community spirit, supporting local organisations and creating opportunities for residents of all ages to become involved in making Sandown and Lake vibrant places to live.

Sandown Town Council and Lake Parish Council extend their sincere thanks to every volunteer who continues to give their time and dedication for the benefit of the wider community.
