Families can hunt for Halloween masks, try them on in augmented reality and meet spooky characters around Sandown this October.
This Halloween, families are invited to get outside and explore Sandown with Totally Spooking Out!, a free augmented reality trail running from 21 October 2026 to 31 October 2026.
Sandown Town Council has teamed up with High Street Safari to bring the interactive Halloween experience to Sandown, giving families a fun reason to explore the area together during the spooky season.
The trail challenges families to find 10 Halloween masks hidden at stops around the town. From witches and mummies to ghouls and other classic Halloween characters, there is something different waiting to be discovered at every stop.
Using a smartphone, families can scan each trail marker to unlock an augmented reality experience. Children – and grown-ups – can try the mask on digitally, pose for a spooky selfie and then watch as the full character appears in augmented reality in front of them.
There’s no app to download and the experience runs through the mobile browser, making it easy for families to join in while they explore.
A spokesperson from the Town Council said:
“We’re delighted to be bringing Totally Spooking Out! to Sandown this Halloween. It’s a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy a fun, free activity together while exploring the town, discovering local businesses and spending time in different parts of the area. We hope the trail encourages residents and visitors alike to get involved, enjoy some spook fun and see everything Sandown has to offer.”
Stephen Blackwell, Project Director at High Street Safari, said:
“Totally Spooking Out! is all about giving families a simple, fun Halloween adventure they can enjoy together. There’s a real sense of discovery as children hunt down each mask, try it on and then meet the character in augmented reality.
“We’ve designed the trail to get families out exploring their local area, while making the digital side as easy as possible. You just need a smartphone to get involved – there’s no app to download.”
The trail features 10 stops around Sandown, encouraging families to explore different parts of the area as they track down every mask. The stops can be completed in any order, so families can enjoy the trail at their own pace.
Once all 10 masks have been found, families will unlock a free digital activity pack to enjoy after completing their Halloween adventure.
Totally Spooking Out! is completely free to take part and runs from 21 October 2026 until 31 October 2026
