Sandown Town Council is delighted to announce the installation of two new vegetable planters and the first harvest of a variety of home-grown produce. This has been made possible through the generous support and assistance of Footprint Trust, Petra Saunders, and Kevin McNamara.
The planters have been installed at the Broadway Centre, creating an exciting opportunity for residents to come together and grow fresh produce within the community. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to encourage sustainable living, healthy eating, and community involvement across Sandown.
The project is being supported by Christ Church Member Debbie Andre, who, together with her dedicated community team, will oversee the growing and cultivation of the vegetables. The fresh produce harvested from the planters will be used to support the popular Warm Spaces Café, held at Christ Church every Monday from 11.00am to 1.00pm.
The Warm Spaces Café provides a welcoming environment where members of the community can come together, enjoy refreshments, and access support and companionship. By using locally grown produce, the project will help provide fresh ingredients while promoting the benefits of community gardening and environmental sustainability.
