The annual Christmas Fundraiser for Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, held at Sandown’s Broadway Centre, provided a cracker of a start to the festive season in Sandown.
Volunteers from the Lifeboat crew and their mascot ‘Indie’ were presented with a cheque by Sandown Mayor Alex Lightfoot for £3,000 of grant monies budgeted to support the Lifeboat’s activities in Sandown Bay this year.
Mayor Alex Lightfoot said, ‘The dedication and voluntary commitment of the Crew of the Independent Lifeboat, in Sandown and Shanklin, deserve our support to assist their selfless service in saving lives, and we congratulate them on their fundraising efforts’.
Organiser Richard Burns added: ‘We are truly grateful for the support of our stallholders this year and for the public attending our annual event. Professionalism and commitment go into delivering this 24/7 front-line emergency service, and without the added dedication of our fundraising team, it simply wouldn’t be possible.’
Sandown Mayor Alex Lightfoot expressed gratitude, saying: ‘A big thank you to Richard and everyone involved in this festive fundraiser. Both the Town and the Island are fortunate to have such a dedicated team, and the Town Council truly values all that they do.’
