Accessible Facilities Bookings Page

Welcome to our Accessible Facilities Bookings Page

Sandown Town Council is committed to ensuring everyone can enjoy our town with comfort, dignity, and confidence. Our Changing Places facility and beach wheelchairs can be booked online, giving you the reassurance that the support you need will be ready when you arrive.

Extra Accessibility Support

During the summer season, weather and tides permitting, busy periods, beach matting is installed to create a firmer, more stable route across the sand, helping wheelchair users, families with buggies, and anyone who finds soft sand challenging.

Sandown is for everyone — and we’re proud to offer facilities that help make our seafront and public spaces welcoming, inclusive, and easy to enjoy.

Changing Places Facility

Book a 5‑minute slot to receive an access code valid for the whole day (8am–6pm). Longer bookings can be arranged for your required dates.

The facility meets national standards and includes a ceiling‑mounted hoist, height‑adjustable bench, privacy screen, grab rails, and adjustable sink. It is located beside the Eastern Gardens public toilets, with accessible beach matting nearby.

The Facility was funded by a grant from the Isle of Wight Council and Sandown Residents, who now fun the cleaning and maintenance.

Beach Wheelchairs

Two beach‑friendly wheelchairs are available to book either alongside your Changing Places session or on their own. Supported by our lifeguard team and The Wave Project, these chairs help visitors of all ages and mobility levels enjoy the sand and shoreline.

Beach wheelchairs are available between 11am and 6pm, collected from the Lifeguard Tower, for weekend use outside the main season collection will be arranged for Friday, with return on Monday, ensuring continued access even when staffing levels are reduced.
